Riomaggiore's main street follows the course of a covered river channel down to the small boat harbour, with the brightly painted houses rising steeply on both sides. It's the closest village to La Spezia and therefore catches some day-trippers, but retains a distinctly local character in its upper alleys and working fishing harbour.
