Best Time to Visit New York City
USA
New York has no bad season — only different ones. Autumn brings Central Park foliage and cultural premieres. Winter brings holiday magic. Spring brings cherry blossoms. Summer brings outdoor cinema and rooftop bars. Your timing should match your interests, not just the thermometer.
Best Months
September-November, April-May
Good Months
December (holiday season), June
Consider Avoiding
January-February (brutal cold), August (humid and sticky)
Season by Season
Spring (April-May)
Cherry blossoms in Central Park and Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Temperatures: 10-22°C. Outdoor dining season begins. Broadway is in full swing. This is NYC at its most pleasant — warm enough for walking, cool enough for comfort.
Summer (June-August)
Hot and humid (28-35°C with high humidity). But free outdoor concerts (SummerStage, Met Opera in the Parks), rooftop bars, and beach trips to the Rockaways compensate. Hotels are cheaper than autumn. August can be brutally sticky.
Autumn (September-November)
NYC's finest season. September's warm days (20-26°C), Central Park foliage (peak mid-October to early November), Fashion Week, and the cultural season's opening nights. October is the single best month to visit New York City.
Winter (December-February)
December is magical: Rockefeller Center tree, holiday windows at Saks and Bergdorf, ice skating in Central Park. January-February is harsh (0 to -5°C with wind chill) but hotel prices drop 40-50%, and indoor NYC (museums, Broadway, restaurants) is world-class.
