We exist to take the guesswork out of finding a great hotel. Not the most marketed hotel, not the one with the most reviews from people you've never met — the right hotel for you, curated by people who genuinely care about the quality of your stay.

Our Mission

Hotelier's Choice was built on a simple premise: the best hotel recommendations come from people who have actually stayed somewhere, or who have done the kind of deep, obsessive research that approximates that experience. We are an independent hotel curation platform — we have no financial relationship with the properties we feature that would compromise our editorial judgement. Our only obligation is to the traveller reading our guides.

Every city we cover, every guide we publish, every hotel we recommend is the result of a deliberate editorial process. We are not a booking engine that surfaces the highest-paying properties. We are not a review aggregator that surfaces the most-reviewed ones. We are editors who happen to love hotels — and who believe that the right recommendation, delivered clearly, is genuinely worth something.

How We Curate

Our editorial process has four stages, applied consistently across every guide we publish:

  • Research: We begin with a comprehensive review of every credible source — professional travel press, guest reviews across multiple platforms, industry awards, and direct intelligence from our network of contacts within the hospitality industry. We're looking for signal, not noise.
  • First-hand and verified reviews: Where possible, our recommendations are informed by direct experience. Where we have not personally stayed, we apply a rigorous proxy methodology: cross-referencing detailed reviews from verified guests, seeking out long-form accounts from trusted travel journalists, and stress-testing claims against what we know about a property's track record.
  • Local insight: A hotel doesn't exist in isolation. We consider neighbourhood, transport links, proximity to the experiences our readers are travelling for, and the kind of traveller the property genuinely serves well. A hotel that scores perfectly on paper may not score perfectly for your specific trip.
  • Ongoing updates: Hotels change. Management changes, renovations happen, standards slip or improve. We review and update our guides regularly — typically every six to twelve months for high-traffic destinations — to ensure our recommendations reflect current reality, not historical reputation.

Our Values

Three principles underpin everything we publish:

  • Editorial independence: Our recommendations are made on merit. We participate in affiliate programmes — including Booking.com — which means we may earn a commission when you book through our links, at no additional cost to you. This commercial relationship has no bearing on which hotels we feature or how we rank them. We would rather recommend fewer hotels with conviction than more hotels with caveats.
  • Honest reviews: We don't shy away from noting the weaknesses of properties we otherwise recommend. A hotel with an exceptional spa and mediocre food deserves to be described accurately. Travellers make better decisions when they have honest information.
  • Traveller-first approach: Every editorial decision we make is filtered through a single question: is this genuinely useful to the person planning their trip? Our guides are not marketing materials. They are the kind of advice you'd give to a trusted friend who asked for your honest opinion.
