The Valle dei Mulini — Valley of the Mills — is a deep gorge in the centre of Sorrento, its ancient water mills abandoned in 1866 when sea drainage made it too damp to operate and now engulfed by wild subtropical vegetation including ferns, moss, and century-old trees that have created a remarkable miniature jungle in the heart of the city. The gorge is viewable from the cliff-edge balustrade near the Piazza Tasso.
