Kinder Scout is the highest point in the Peak District at 636 metres, a vast peat moorland plateau famous as the site of the 1932 mass trespass that established the right to roam over British moorland and led ultimately to the creation of national parks. The Kinder Downfall waterfall on the western edge is the highest waterfall in England, and the plateau's peat haggs, rocky tors, and wild heather provide outstanding walking for those happy with rough terrain. Hotels in Edale and Hayfield are the main bases for Kinder Scout, and the village of Edale is the start of the Pennine Way.
