The Promenade du Peyrou is a magnificent formal royal promenade at the western end of Montpellier's historic centre, anchored by a triumphal arch to Louis XIV and the magnificent Saint-Clement aqueduct — a two-tiered Roman-style structure 880 metres long that carried water to the city's fountains. The elevated terrace at the far end offers the finest views over Montpellier's rooftops to the Pyrenees, the Mediterranean coast, and on exceptionally clear days the peaks of the Alps.
