Christmas in Calgary is a prairie winter: cold, dry and bright, with chinook winds that can briefly warm things up. The big draws are the light shows at the Calgary Zoo and Spruce Meadows, the festive trains and wagon rides at Heritage Park, and theatre and ballet in the city. Ski areas in Banff National Park are about 90 minutes' drive away.
