Santa Monica
The only hotel in Los Angeles actually on the sand, Shutters combines Cape Cod beach-house charm with serious luxury — rooms feel residential and warm, the beachfront restaurant is reliably excellent, and the sound of waves replaces LA's usual ambient soundtrack of helicopters and traffic.

West Hollywood
The most mythologised hotel in Hollywood, a 1929 Norman castle-style property where the entertainment industry has checked in for a century of transactions, romances, and occasional scandals. Bungalows are booked months ahead for their celebrity-spotting courtyards, and the bar remains one of the best places in LA to feel as though you're in a film.

Venice Beach
Venice's best hotel option sits a block from Abbot Kinney Boulevard with a rooftop bar (High) that captures the salt-air magic of this bohemian neighbourhood perfectly. Rooms are bright and comfortable, the staff genuinely reflect the local vibe, and rates are more reasonable than comparable beachside properties.
