The SITA bus along the SS163 coastal road is the most practical and atmospheric way to travel between the towns (€1.30–€2.50 per journey). It can be very crowded — take it early morning or after 6 PM to avoid crush conditions.
Book accommodation 6–12 months in advance for July and August, and expect to pay 30–40% more than shoulder season. The best rooms at Le Sirenuse, Belmond Caruso, and San Pietro di Positano book out 9–12 months ahead.
The ferry network is more enjoyable (and often faster) than the bus for town-to-town travel — ferries run between Salerno, Amalfi, Positano, and Capri from April to October, and the sea views are extraordinary.
Limoncello here is the authentic article — made from the sfusato amalfitano lemon, a protected variety found nowhere else in the world. Buy a bottle from a producer rather than a tourist shop; Profumi della Costiera in Ravello is outstanding.
Hiking the Sentiero degli Dei (Path of the Gods) above Positano to Agerola is one of the finest coastal walks in the Mediterranean (6km, 3–4 hours). Start early from Positano for the best light and to beat the midday heat.
